Designed by Messers George Gilbert Scott (1811 - 1878 of London) and William Bonython Moffatt (1812 - 1887 of London), and built on land donated by the Duke of Somerset, the Church of St. Martin was consecrated in the parish of Mere on 14 October 1846. It became an ecclestial parish on 27 June 1848. The spire was donated in 1876 by local benefactor Julia Chafyn Grove. [1]
